No frills mexican place, authentic style good. The food is good, and the food alone i would give it a 3 but they have an amazing array of sauces and salsa which really brings a kick and flavor to the dishes we ordered.
I spent four years in Tucson and have only had mole sauce this good at Cafe Poca Cosa. The chicken in the mole poblano here is rich and very slightly gamey, slow simmered complexity with really delicate notes of spice and cocoa-- even though there's no chocolate in it. (I asked. This is grandmother-made mole and she said she makes it with love and patience.) Whole fried fish? Yep. Home made tortillas? Oh my goodness, yes, with the uneven and slightly brown edge. Three kinds of salsa come with the chips. The salsa verde is tangy yum with kick and the hot is painful but in a hurts-so-good way. You won't go wrong with tacos but if you want to explore other great Mexican food, this is the place to do it.
